| Description: Guy Adami, vice chairman tradeMONSTER and a contributor to CNBC's "Fast Money," will be the keynote speaker at the "Financial Leadership Forum 2009: From the Classroom to the Workplace" on Friday, Nov. 6, in Alumni Hall at Quinnipiac University.
Adami will deliver the address, "The Responsibility of the Financial Media in the 21st Century," at the third annual forum sponsored by the Quinnipiac University School of Business and the Barnum Financial Group. Registration, which includes a continental breakfast, starts at 8:30 a.m.
Following Adami's keynote address, John J. Brett, senior vice president for the MetLife broker-dealer group, will deliver the forum's second major address, "Reshaping the Financial Services Industry."
The public is invited to attend the morning sessions only. After lunch, students will have an opportunity to take part in breakout sessions on investment banking, international accounting standards, uncovering financial fraud, options and careers in accounting and finance.
In addition to being vice chairman of tradeMONSTER and a contributor to CNBC's "FastMoney," Adami is the managing director of Drakon Capital, providing customized market analysis and portfolio strategy to institutional money managers and hedge funds. He also writes a weekly newsletter for retail investors called "Advantage Point" and contributes daily pre-market analysis and webcasts to optionMONSTER.com.
Previously, Adami served as executive director at CIBC World Markets in 2003, where he was in charge of the industrial/basic material group. In this role, he was a frequent contributor to many of CNBC's daytime shows, including guest hosting "Squawk Box." He also worked for Goldman Sachs, joining the company in 1996 as head gold trader and one of many proprietary traders within the fixed income currency and commodity division. In the spring of 2000, Adami joined the U.S. Equities Division of Goldman Sachs, where he was put in charge of the industrial/basic material group. Adami began his career at Drexel Burnham Lambert in 1986 and was promoted to vice president and head gold trader at the firm.
Brett is senior vice president of the MetLife broker-dealer group. He leads sales and investment product management for this unit of MetLife that serves the company's 13,000 registered representatives and its affiliated broker-dealers. Before joining MetLife, Brett headed U.S. private client distribution for BlackRock, where he was responsible for national accounts and drove the integration of Merrill Lynch investment managers and legacy BlackRock into the retail broker-dealer client base. Prior to that, he served as director of strategic relationships and director of the strategic advisory group for Lord Abbett and Co., a0011nd held several key distribution roles at Merrill Lynch, where he began his career in 1980. Brett also serves as treasurer of the board of trustees at Lewis University, where he earned a bachelor's in business administration.
