Timo Rissanen, associate dean and assistant professor of fashion and sustainability at the Parsons School of Design, will present the lecture “Fashion Systems and Micro-Utopias” at noon on Friday, April 20. The lecture will be followed by the annual eco-fashion show, where students will model outfits made from day-to-day household items. This event is free and open to the public.
Rissanen will discuss his current research and teaching in sustainability, focusing on design for micro-utopias in a fashion-systems context.
At 12:30 p.m., the students who are part of an eco-fashion class, will model their eco fashions. During the class, they have learned about creating zero-waste fashion using a host of household materials, including newspapers, magazines, shopping bags and cash register receipts. Students were taught how to sew and connect the materials to create the outfits they will model.
